A Birthday Tea For Mary Bryan Steele, Waveland - 2007
Mary Bryan Steele (seated at center, red hat) is the oldest living descendant of Joseph Bryan (1797-1887), builder of Waveland in Lexington. While the Bryan family was gone from Waveland by 1914, when Mrs. Steele was born, her father Volney and grandfather Joseph Henry Bryan passed on many family stories about the old home place. Mrs. Steele has been a priceless source of information for the museum and thanks to her and her family, Waveland is today a Kentucky treasure furnished with many Bryan antiques and embellished with stories of the Bryans and their place in Kentucky History.
