When the Army of Tennessee entered Kentucky in the late summer of 1862, Unionists called it an invasion.  The Confederate sympathizers hailed it as redemption.  For those who had doubt, General Edmund Kirby Smith posted this broadside explaining his purpose.       Picture courtesy of the Library of Congress
